2003.1 - Grand Prix Racetrack
Abstract
Design work from the 2003 spring semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Speedway. Jan Damiecki. The project is based on Formula One racing for a site in Mansfield, south of Arlington. Spectator seating is placed perpendicular to the roadway, challenging tradition and creating a dramatic position to watch the race. Cars will appear to come speeding toward the audience, then disappear beneath them. The sloping berm-like forms with subtracted rhythmic intervals of carved-out spaces, rise up from the ground to contain pit garages, grandstand seating, sky box suites, track side rental and condominium housing, commercial space, and a car museum.
