Abstract
**Please note that the full text is embargoed** ABSTRACT: Seed: Strategies, Events, Episodes + Devices, offered by The University of Texas at Arlington School of Architecture and supported by AIA Dallas and AIA Fort Worth. SEED is a program designed to encourage talented high school students to consider architecture as a future course of study. High performing students from the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex were nominated by their teachers to participate in a two-week summer camp led by School of Architecture faculty. Exquisite Constructions + [Re]presentations was the theme for SEED 2009. The students completed a variety of individual and group exercises with bolted assemblies of 1" x 2" lumber which provided lessons in connections, structure vs. skin, and unique vs. repetitive elements. [Re]presentation of each construction followed with photography, collage, and large scale charcoal and pastel drawings. The repeated cycle of construction and representation allowed the students to experience the cyclical nature of the design process first-hand.
