Maria Martinez-Cosio, Ph.D.
I am a sociologist, interested in the intersection of structure, culture and agency in the urban context. As a first-generation college graduate, my interests gravitate towards understanding the experience of immigrants, particularly those from Latin America in the urban environment. My research includes an analysis of the relationships between private foundations engaged in community development, and the underserved communities targeted for change, particularly those populated by English-language-learners. As a qualitative researcher, I teach graduate courses in qualitative methods, urban theory and social policy formation.
